Didier Deschamps was the man tasked with helping Juventus regain promotion to Serie A after their 2006 relegation to Calciopoli.
The Frenchman had led AS Monaco to the Champions League final and was one of the best young coaches in the world at the time.
He led Juve back to Serie A before stepping down as the club’s manager and has had a promising managerial career so far.
He won the 2018 World Cup and reached the final of the 2022 edition and Euro 2016 with the France team.
He is seen as a very calm figure, but former Juve player Claudio Marchisio says he could be a problem when he gets angry.
He tells Football Italia of an incident when they worked together at Juve:
“I had never been sent off at youth level, it was a really unfair decision and I was stunned. I was very sad to leave the team with 10 men in that game, so when we went back to training, I was expecting a reprimand from the manager.
“Deschamps received me with a really somber face. He’s a nice guy, but if he gets mad… he told me that he should be more careful.
“I turned around, embarrassed, and then I heard him laugh. He looked at me and said: ‘Don’t worry, keep playing your way.’
Juve FC says
Deschamps was a good manager at Juve and only left due to disagreements with the club’s hierarchy.
Now he is proving his worth in the football world and he may come back as our manager one day in the future.
