Manchester United’s Facundo Pellistri showed promise despite defeat – Man United News And Transfer News

Uruguay lost 2-0 to Portugal after United’s Bruno Fernandes scored a brace.

Manchester United’s Facundo Pellistri was in action for Uruguay and although he was on the losing end, he showed promise against Portugal.

Pellistri came on after 62′ and showed his attacking vocation with a good cross and two key passes. His passing accuracy was 73%.

The 20-year-old signed for Manchester United in 2020 but has spent much of his time on loan at Alaves and has yet to make his Reds debut.

He will be hoping to make a real impact in Uruguay’s final group game against Ghana to give his country a chance to qualify and fall on Ten Hag’s radar in the future.

Meanwhile, the former Red, Edinson Cavani played 73 minutes for his country.

He had a golden opportunity to level things shortly after Bruno Fernandes had put Portugal ahead, but he misjudged the cross and the ball went over him and on target.

He won two-thirds of their aerial duels while having 63% passing accuracy and also delivered two key passes to his colleagues.

Another former Rojo who played for the South American team was Guillermo Varela.

He played just four times for United, but set up one of Marcus Rashford’s goals that the Englishman scored on his debut.

Varela played the full ninety minutes, but only had 39 touches and only one of his five crosses found his target.

Uruguay will have to beat Ghana on Friday to have qualifying options and will hope that other results will favor them.
