Manchester United academy product Álvaro Fernández, currently on loan at Preston North End, has enjoyed a good start in life with his temporary employers.
The young Spaniard picked up the Man of the Match award for his contributions on Wednesday night for Ryan Lowe’s side after a brilliant assist for Preston’s only goal of the match, which ultimately turned out to be the winner.
Fernández brilliantly crossed the ball to help his teammate Emil Riis, who did not fail to find the back of the net.
And that assist sent United fans into a frenzy on social media. Some excited fans on Twitter called him the ‘future GOAT’.
Riis, the scorer, speaking after the game, praised the former Real Madrid player.
He said of Fernandez: “Yeah, it was easy, I just guided him towards the goal, I didn’t have to do much so he was a great center and he’s a brilliant player.”
“He just needs to move on.”
Lowe, his coach, also praised the player, saying: “I said position yourself in the right areas and you will find the net because we have good players like Alvaro who can put the balls on a layup for you.” , and he certainly did tonight, so I’m very happy.”
Beyond the fantastic attendance, the 19-year-old put in a spirited performance against West Bromwich Albion’s Jed Wallace, which did not allow him to have a significant impact on the game.
The result helped Preston climb to 11th place in the Championship table.

Keane watched the United prodigy sink another former United star, Steve Bruce. Bruce is currently the manager of the Baggies, but he is increasingly under fire.
West Brom currently have just one win from 12 games and are just two points from safety. With the assist from him against West Brom, Fernandez now has three assists in the nine games he has featured for Preston.
