Manchester United target Jonathan David has said he wants to play in the Premier League, after declaring it the best league in the world.
The striker was speaking after Canada’s loss to Morocco as his campaign in Qatar came to an end without scoring any points in the group stage.
Poor performances by Jonathan David were perhaps a contributing factor to his poor performance, with the striker benched for his final game.
There was a lot of expectation for the Lille striker, who has scored 9 goals and given 3 assists in 15 Ligue 1 games this season.
However, he did not live up to the billing in the tournament, where he was likely to have been followed by Arsenal and Newcastle United, as well as the Red Devils.
All three have been linked with David, but it is believed that Man United probably made an offer in January as they look to replace Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Canadian was philosophical about his performances and suggested he will learn from the experience, saying: “It’s the smallest differences that make the difference at the highest level.
“Any player who plays in the World Cup, regardless of the result, you become a better player, you learn from him and he helps you grow.”
The player was asked about the rumors surrounding his future but has remained mum regarding any interest from United.
“I’m not aware of anything,” David said. “When I’m at the World Cup, I’m just focused on trying to enjoy the World Cup and enjoying the moment.”
However, he left the door open, adding: “What happens next I don’t know, we’ll have to see it.
“The Premier League is the best league in the world and I think every player would want to play there one day.”
While Canada struggled to make an impact in Qatar, Jonathan David is clearly a player United will continue to keep an eye on. Old Trafford may well be the next step in his career.
