He gradually worked his way up the ranks and was promoted to first-team debutant in February 2018. He soon established himself in PSV’s starting eleven and began to show his talent.

Gakpo was awarded the Dutch Football of the Year award when he scored 21 goals in 47 competitions last season. The 23-year-old winger has already represented the Netherlands in international football. He is now a regular name in Louis Van Gaal’s team.

After joining Manchester United, Erik ten Hag asked the Red Devils management to sign quite a few players who can help them play their style of football. In most cases, the United management got it right and secured the transfers.

However, Cody Gakpo remains one of the failed attempts at United’s transfer business in the last summer. Finally, the Dutch winger has broken his silence about this failed transfer.

While speaking about his failed move to Manchester United, Cody Gakpo told The Times: “I was close to leaving PSV. I spoke to Erik ten Hag a couple of times at Manchester United, in the end, the deal didn’t go through… and it was a shame.”

The Dutch international further said: “Manchester United is one of the biggest clubs in the world.”

As well as Manchester United, two other Premier League clubs, Leeds United and Southampton, were also in the running for the Dutch winger. However, the deals did not materialize. Gakpo admitted that he also had the option to join these two clubs, but he decided to stay at PSV.

Now at PSV, he has continued his great form from last season. Gakpo already has 14 goals in 20 games and is having the best season of his career.

With his rich form, the winger now looks favorite to make Louis Van Gaal’s Dutch squad for the upcoming Qatar 2022 World Cup.

Meanwhile, Manchester United signed Antony to bolster their forward lineup. The Brazilian has proven to be a good signing so far. United are off to a decent start to their English Premier League campaign.

With 16 points from the first nine games, the Red Devils sit fifth in the EPL table. They will now face Tottenham Hotspur in their next game.
