Manchester United are preparing to submit a €50m offer to sign PSV Eindhoven attacker Cody Gakpo once the January 2023 transfer window opens, according to a report by The Telegraph.
Cody Gakpo had attracted interest from Manchester United in the summer of 2022. The Dutch international was a transfer target for the Red Devils if their move to sign Brazilian winger Antony from Ajax failed. Manchester United finally landed Antony from Ajax after reaching the Dutch club’s asking price for the 22-year-old.
Manchester United have now reignited their interest in Cody Gakpo as the Red Devils look to sign an attacker following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo. The Old Trafford outfit mutually terminated Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract with the club in November this year.
Cristiano Ronaldo had sat down for an explosive interview with Piers Morgan before his contract expired. The Portuguese superstar effectively burned bridges with Man Utd after criticizing the club and manager Erik ten Hag in the interview. Manchester United later terminated Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract by mutual consent.

Erik ten Hag wants Manchester United to sign Cody Gakpo in January
According to The Telegraph, Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has prioritized signing another striker in the upcoming January transfer window.
The report says that Man Utd accept the need to bring in another striker following Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure from the club and are prepared to back the manager.
The Telegraph is also reporting that Gakpo, who has also attracted interest from elsewhere, wants to join Manchester United and play under Erik ten Hag.
Cody Gakpo has been impressive for PSV Eindhoven in the first half of the 22/23 season. He has participated in 24 games in all competitions in the 22/23 season with PSV Eindhoven and has accumulated 13 goals. He has also provided 17 assists in those games.
Cody Gakpo also enjoyed an impressive 2022 FIFA World Cup campaign. He was part of the Netherlands squad that reached the quarter-finals of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Gakpo scored three goals for the Netherlands at Qatar 2022, one in each of his three group stage matches.
Meanwhile, Cody Gakpo has more than three years left on his current deal with PSV Eindhoven. The Dutch international last renewed his contract with the Dutch outfit in January 2022. His current contract with PSV Eindhoven runs until 2026.
