Manchester United Plotting a Move for Victor Osimhen

English Premier League giants Manchester United are currently interested in signing Nigerian international Victor Osimhen from Napoli.

Victor Osimhen began his football career at the Ultimate Strikers Academy in Lagos. Osimhen represented Nigeria at the 2015 U-17 World Cup.

His brilliant performances for the Nigerian team helped him land a contract from Bundesliga club VFL Wolfsburg. The Nigerian striker then made his senior team debut for Wolfsburg. After one season with the German team, Osimhen joined Belgian side Charleroi on loan.

The Nigerian forward scored many goals for Charleroi. At the end of his loan contract, his contract became indefinite. Shortly after, however, the striker joined Ligue 1 club Lille. Osimhen spent a season in France. He scored eighteen goals in all competitions. Finally, at the start of the 2020-21 season, Napoli signed him after paying a club-record fee of 70 million euros.

Manchester United planning a move for Victor Osimhen

Now, according to a report by the Manchester Evening News, English Premier League giants Manchester United have identified Victor Osimhen as their next No. 9.

Since the arrival of Erik ten Hag, Manchester United have done quite well. The Red Devils have qualified from their Europa League group and are in the running for the top four of the English Premier League.

However, there are still quite a few areas where the Red Devils will need to beef up. One of them is surely the center forward position. United came into the season with Portuguese striker Cristiano Ronaldo as their main striker.

As the season progressed, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner didn’t even make it into Erik ten Hag’s starting eleven. Things took a turn for the worse in United’s Premier League game against Tottenham. Cristiano Ronaldo reportedly stormed out even before the final whistle. He also reportedly refused to be substituted in the match.

After the Tottenham match, Erik ten Hag eliminated Cristiano Ronaldo from his next EPL match against Chelsea. Currently, things are not looking good between the two parties and the Portuguese superstar will mostly be leaving in the upcoming January window. Then there’s Anthony Martial, who has missed much of the season due to injury.

Meanwhile, Marcus Rashford has been the only Manchester United player in the forward position. The England international, however, plays the best he can on the left flank. So, as a result, United are looking for quite a few strikers that they can bring in in the next few transfer windows.

How good is Osimhen?

Victor Osimhen is currently one of the best strikers in Serie-A. He leads the race for the golden boot and his Napoli is at the top of the League. Osimhen’s contract with Napoli will run until 2025.

Although the Italian team will surely not sell him this season, they could think about getting some resale value if the Nigerian decides not to renew with the Italian team. This is a great opportunity for Manchester United, who have the financial capacity to bring the striker to Old Trafford.
