One of the first things Erik ten Hag did as Manchester United’s new manager was to identify defense and midfield as areas in need of major improvement.
And the Dutchman did exactly that, bringing in a couple of defenders and midfielders each, but there are still problems to solve up front.
Another area that needs a resolution is the goalkeeper. David de Gea has been United’s No 1 for over a decade, but his skill set doesn’t exactly suit Ten Hag’s style.
The former Ajax manager demands that his goalkeeper be proficient with the ball at his feet and have the ability to play goalkeeper when necessary.
United goalkeeper search
While the Spaniard’s shot-stopping ability has never been in question, he lacks both of the aforementioned traits. And this has generated a lot of speculation about United’s search for a substitute.
Loan goalkeeper Martin Dubravka is expected to return to Newcastle United, while Dean Henderson’s future remains unclear as of now.

United have yet to activate the one-year extension clause in the Spain international’s contract and no contract talks ending in 2023 have taken place.
The Reds have been linked to the likes of Jan Oblak, Yann Sommer and Odysseas Vlachodimos, but the World Cup has thrown a new name into the ring.
Morocco’s hero against Spain, Yassine Bounou, is now a target for the English giants according to AS (via Yahoo) and Transfers.
Will Yassine Bounou return to United?
United have known him well for a couple of years when he was part of Sevilla who defeated Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s United in the Europa League semi-finals.
He was also looked at last summer, but a move was not deemed appropriate. But his World Cup exploits have put him firmly back in the spotlight once more.
United is known for its propensity to strike deals based on World Cup displays in the past. It is valued at 15 million euros according to Transfermarkt.
