Manchester United legend Roy Keane: Cristiano Ronaldo still one of the best in League – Man United News And Transfer News

Roy Keane has listed his top three current players in the Premier League.

During Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football coverage of Nottingham Forest’s match against Aston Villa, Keane and fellow pundit Jamie Carragher were posed with a number of “Top Three” questions.

The Irishman’s former team, Forest, finished the game with a goal from Villa.

Carragher was the first to answer the question about the top three current Premier League players, to which he answered confidently with Kevin de Bruyne and Erling Haaland, and a rather shaky third response from Virgil van Dijk.

Keane agreed with the Manchester City pair, but put forward his own third candidate.

Your answer? Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo scored the 700th goal of his club career to seal United’s three points against Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday night.

However, the legendary striker has not started in the League since United’s 4-0 loss to Brentford and has only played 207 domestic minutes this season.

His goal on Sunday was his first of the season in all competitions.

This bias from Keane towards his former teammate comes quickly after he vehemently attacked the 37-year-old’s constant downfall of Ten Hag.

After the Manchester Derby, in which Ronaldo sat on the bench for the entire match, Keane argued:

“You don’t cling to Ronaldo to put him on the bench, he is one of the best players of all time. I had options!

“I think it’s ridiculous for a player of his stature. [to be benched].

“I think United have shown nothing but disrespect to Ronaldo.”

It’s understandable that Keane, and others, see Ronaldo as the best player in La Liga when history, records, numbers and stature are told.

But considering Ronaldo the best in La Liga right now is unfair given his lack of playing time this season.

Meanwhile, Carragher’s obvious and unwarranted bias towards Virgil van Dijk cannot go unnoticed either.

Liverpool currently sit in 10th place having won just two Premier League games this season.
