Manchester United legend Paul Scholes and Owen Hagreaves say these five players are Erik ten Hag’s only guaranteed starters – Man United News And Transfer News

Former Manchester United players Paul Scholes and Owen Hargreaves agreed after the victory against Omonia that Erik ten Hag still does not have a fixed team.

The former midfielders made the claim, adding that the Dutch manager only had five guaranteed starters.

According to the two, Ten Hag is still not sure who to trust other than the five of them.

The five mentioned were David de Gea, Lisandro Martínez, Diogo Dalot, Christian Eriksen and Bruno Fernandes.

Hargreaves told BT Sport via The Sun: “Luke Shaw came into the team against Everton, [Victor] Lindelof came in from the side, Casemiro came in from the side. So he is still trying to find the mix.”

“The rest of the positions are up for grabs, so I think there are auditions for these players to continue and play well.”

Scholes echoed the 41-year-old’s comments, who said Ten Hag was using the Europa League as an opportunity to better understand his players and give those he trusts a rest.

Scholes commented: “He’s not quite sure which team is his best, [he is] not totally thrilled with the performances. Winning games, yes, but I don’t think he has the right mix of what he really wants.”

It’s hard to argue against the two former United stars’ arguments as they are valid points.

Several supporters have mildly questioned Ten Hag’s unwillingness to rotate and rest players, especially with a packed and busy upcoming schedule that will see his side play matches every three to four days.

He could be praised for fielding a strong team every time, but the risk is that injuries and physical discomfort can occur.

However, Ten Hag knows better and has done a commendable job so far. No doubt he will look to have certain regulars from which he can rotate wider when needed.
