Under Erik ten Hag, Manchester United appear to be on course to achieve all the goals they had set for themselves before the start of the season.
The Red Devils are currently fourth, level on points with Newcastle United in third, with one game remaining. They have also reached the fourth round of the FA Cup.
United also have a great chance to reach the EFL Cup semi-finals, with a quarter-final tie against League One side Charlton Athletic to follow.
United’s extensive search for forwards
The only thing holding the team back is the lack of an absolute striker after the bitter march of last season’s top scorer, Cristiano Ronaldo.
Initially quite a few high-profile names were linked with the 20-time English league champions, but following the news that the club can only afford loan deals, the noise around those moves has died down.
Manchester United aim for a shock strike for former Man City striker Edin Dzeko https://t.co/qh9AAq0KQb
– Sun Sport (@SunSport) January 8, 2023
The most notable players linked with a near-term move to Old Trafford are Atlético Madrid’s Joao Félix and Burnley’s Wout Weghorst, currently on loan at Besiktas.
Another surprising name has now entered the fray, via Calciomercatoweb: Edin Dzeko. United fans won’t have the best memories of Dzeko, considering his stint with cross-town rivals Manchester City.
“In recent weeks, we have seen possible interest from Manchester United in the transfer of Edin Dzeko.”
“The Red Devils are, in fact, looking for a striker and the former City man would really be the right man.”
Dzeko, the unlikely option
The Inter Milan striker has been on fire this season, racking up 10 goals and four assists in 23 games across all competitions. In fact, he is their top scorer this season.
These rumors have started due to the fact that the Bosnian’s contract with the Nerazurri will expire next summer, with no deal in the offing.
The Italian outlet has also revealed that Champions League champions Real Madrid are also on the hunt for Dzeko’s signature on a temporary basis.
