Manchester United supporters have been left furious after an IT glitch at the club resulted in them being asked to provide evidence of their attendance at matches.
The subscribers who have been affected received an official statement from the club, in which they were asked for a description of the clothes they were wearing, including a photo ID.
The Daily Mail reports: “Under stricter rules introduced for the 2022-23 Premier League campaign, United fans must scan their ticket for at least 10 of the 19 games at Old Trafford, either attending in person or passing it on to someone else. member, or risk being banned from renewing next season.”
“The club sent an update to all season ticket holders last month, which confirmed whether or not their ticket had been scanned for all three league games so far.”
“A number of fan tickets, which are all digital following a club release, did not seek matches against Brighton, Arsenal or Liverpool, despite insisting they were in the game themselves.”
Some fans have been told that their attendance at the three home games will not count towards the 10-game rule, hence the club’s embarrassing request for photographic evidence.
According to The Mail, the Manchester United Supporters Trust is aware of the problem and is working with the club to find a solution.
This latest move will only serve to fuel further distaste for the Glazers from the United fan base.
In recent months there have been protests, demonstrations and boycotts against his ownership of the club.
This handling of season ticket holders is a far cry from how United resolved the ticket issues surrounding the Chelsea game.
The club, having already distributed its original allocation of 2,994 tickets, saw this number drop to 1,500. In response, fans whose tickets were canceled were offered a full refund or a guaranteed seat to one of the next four away games.
Hopefully the problem will be fixed and normality will be restored.
