Manchester United will look to replace Cristiano Ronaldo with Brentford striker Ivan Toney should the Portuguese leave in January.
Toney has been lined up as a potential replacement and he has plenty of fans at Old Trafford.
A report recently surfaced that Brentford were ready to offer their star man an extraordinary new deal with prohibitive clauses intended to prevent interest from United.
However, according to The Sun, the Red Devils are still keeping an eye on the Englishman.
Ronaldo still intends to leave in January, and his likely destination is Chelsea or Real Madrid.
Calciomercato reports via The Sun: “Manchester United are monitoring Toney’s situation ahead of a possible rapprochement.”
“It comes amid interest from a host of Prem teams, with United alongside Leeds, Newcastle and West Ham in the race to acquire his signature.”
“He remains one of Thomas Frank’s key players on the pitch as they look to secure the safety of the Premier League for the second successive campaign.”
The 26-year-old has been in good form this season.
In the nine times he has appeared for the Bees this season, Toney has scored six times and set up twice. This earned him a first England call-up, delivered by Gareth Southgate.
Without a doubt, Toney would be a welcome addition to Erik ten Hag’s team. It is an open secret that the club needs a dangerous goalscorer to share the number nine spot with Anthony Martial.
However, with his contract expiring in 2025, Thomas Frank’s side are likely to demand a huge fee to get rid of Toney’s services.
