It is an open secret that Manchester United need to spend a lot again in the coming windows to strengthen Erik ten Hag’s team.

In the latest summer transfer window, United were one of the biggest spenders, shelling out a club record £270m on transfers including Antony, Lisandro Martinez and Casemiro.
However, despite their mega spending, the Red Devils are still far from being the spending kingpins of Europe.
This accolade belongs to United’s cross-town rivals Manchester City, whose starting XI is the most expensive in Europe.
According to a report by The Mirror ranking the 10 most expensive starting XIs in Europe, the 20-time English champions were ranked third.
United’s starting eleven is valued at £413m.
This is £26m away from second-placed PSG, whose value is boosted by their star-studded attack that includes the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Neymar and Lionel Messi.
Manchester City is valued at roughly £560m, just over £500m.
The Mirror notes on the value of United’s starting line-up: “Man Utd have shelled out over £130m on ex-Ajax players alone this summer. Add Casemiro and the signing of Raphael Varane in 2021 and you are already more than half of that huge total.
“The average of around £37m per player could be even higher were it not for two of last season’s regulars leaving the XI.”
The two players are Harry Maguire and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Liverpool and Chelsea in fourth and fifth place respectively round out the top five on the money list. Arsenal ranks sixth, just above Spanish giant Real Madrid.
Barcelona, ​​Juventus and Bayern Munich in that order make up the rest of the top 10.
