Manchester United are “watching” Dani Olmo with RB Leipzig contract coming to an end – Man United News And Transfer News

The Manchester United manager has set out to strengthen the backbone of the team after many seasons of neglecting the issue.

United needed to bring in a defensive-minded midfielder and creative force in midfield and they did just that with the addition of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen in the summer.

However, with the long injury to Donny van de Beek and the fact that there remains uncertainty surrounding the future of Fred and Scott McTominay, a new midfielder is needed at the Red Devils.

Olmo, United’s target

One player who got the suggestion to move to Theater of Dreams is RB Leipzig’s Dani Olmo.

He has contributed three goals and four assists in all competitions this season and even impressed for Spain at the World Cup, scoring once and setting up another.

The Peoples Person reported that the Spain international already had an offer from the 20-time English league champions and his contract expired in 2024.

According to Christian Falk, who runs a transfer column for CaughtOffside, United’s interest in Olmo is genuine and they could make a move for the versatile midfielder.

“Yes, Manchester United are still looking at it, of course.

“Leipzig is hopeful that Olmo has a new contract. He didn’t sign now, so they’re getting a bit nervous that he might want to change leagues.”

Difficult race for Olmo

However, any signing of the 24-year-old will be complicated by the interest he has generated among major European league clubs.

Chelsea have asked about the possibility of getting the Leipzig star while Barcelona came close to getting him last summer. Bayern Munich is also in the race to sign Olmo.

His versatility is a trait highly valued by Ten Hag. Olmo can play as number 10, a genuine replacement for Bruno Fernandes, while he is equally adept on both flanks.

Ten Hag is aware of the need to provide a creative spark, but whether the €40m man is the answer the Dutch coach is looking for remains to be seen.
