Manchester City team news: Haaland to start against former club, Laporte sidelined

Manchester City traveled to Germany to face Borussia Dortmund at Signal Iduna Park on October 25.

It is the first time Erling Haaland has returned to the stadium since leaving the club for City over the summer. He faced his former team at the Etihad in September and scored the winner in the 84th minute, but chose not to celebrate the goal out of respect.

Throughout his time in Germany, he amassed 86 goals and 23 assists in 89 games in all competitions.

City has already qualified for the round of 16 of the competition after accumulating 10 points in four games played. Dortmund are also on course to qualify for the next stage and have a five-point lead over Sevilla and Copenhagen, who sit in third and fourth place. If two disadvantaged teams drew during the first match, Dortmund would qualify automatically.

Man City injury news:

Kyle Walker is sidelined with a groin injury, while Kavin Phillips is still out as he recovers from a shoulder problem. Aymeric Laporte, who has just returned after a lengthy absence with a knee injury, took a knock late in City’s weekend clash with Brighton & Hove Albion, making it unlikely that Pep Guardiola want to take a chance on the Spaniard given his injury history. and the fact that his side has already progressed.
