Manchester City star makes ‘unstoppable’ Liverpool admission

Ilkay Gundogan admitted he felt Liverpool were ‘unstoppable’ for parts of last season as the Reds chased a historic four-pointer.

Jurgen Klopp’s team won both the FA Cup and the League Cup, but Manchester City beat them to the Premier League title and also lost the Champions League final to Real Madrid in Paris.

It was an excellent effort from the Merseysiders and former Borussia Dortmund star Gundogan has admitted that he enjoys competing against the Anfield side.

“It’s amazing to have a team like Liverpool that you have to compete with and that play with such intensity,” the German told The Telegraph (via The Kop Times). “They push every game and for a period of time last season they felt unstoppable.”

Pep Guardiola’s side have won four of the last five English top-flight titles with Liverpool winning the other during the 2019/20 season.

The Citizens are expected to win their third straight championship this term, but we hope to once again give them a run for their money.

We are eight points behind the Sky Blues at the moment but we have a game to spare with our game against Chelsea this weekend postponed as a result of the Queen’s funeral taking place on Monday.

As fans watching Liverpool, we certainly felt unstoppable for much of last season, but it was a shame to miss out on the two trophies you would have liked to win at the start of the campaign.

The hope was that we would carry over last season’s efforts into this campaign, but so far it hasn’t gone according to plan.

However, it is still early days and nothing is to be gained at this stage of the season.

We met City in the Community Shield earlier this season and came out on top 3-1. We were excellent that day but have struggled to perform at that level since that game at the King Power Stadium in Leicester.

Following our recent victory over Ajax, the hope is that Klopp’s team can put together a good run of results before domestic football is interrupted for the World Cup in Qatar during November and December.
