Manchester City emerge as contenders to sign West Ham midfielder

Manchester City have emerged as surprise contenders to sign Declan Rice in the summer with his future at West Ham uncertain.

Rice has attracted plenty of suitors in recent windows, including Arsenal and Chelsea, and City are the latest name to throw their name in the hat for the midfielder.

This is according to TeamTalk, who say the Hammers may be accepting defeat in a summer outing for their captain, and David Moyes continues to insist that any interested team will have to pay a British record fee for him. The current record fee is £106m, which is what Chelsea paid Benfica for Enzo Fernandez in January.

90Min Football’s Graeme Bailey told TeamTalk that clubs will now have to be very wary of interest from City as the club may sell some players to make room for English.

Rice applauds West Ham fans

“One side that needs watching is Manchester City, who are again seriously considering him as part of a potential midfield overhaul.

“With Ilkay Gundogan, Bernardo Silva and possibly Kalvin Phillips all the possible exits, there will be more than enough room at City to take him and they have always appreciated that.”

Phillips could leave City at the end of the season despite only arriving last summer

Rice has been an in-demand man for many seasons and that doesn’t seem to be changing anytime soon, so it will be very interesting to see where he ends up.
