English Premier League giants Manchester City may still be looking to sign England international Declan Rice from EPL club West Ham.
After spending 8 years in the Chelsea academy, Declan Rice joined West Ham’s youth setup in 2014.
He then graduated from West Ham’s academy and was promoted to the main team. Rice soon cemented his place in West Ham’s starting eleven. The midfielder has already made over 200 appearances for the Hammers and is currently one of the best defensive midfielders in the division.
After playing for the Republic of Ireland at both junior and senior level, Declan Rice switched his allegiance to England in 2019. The midfielder became a mainstay in Gaeth Southgate’s side and was part of the English squad that ended runner-up up in the last European Championship.
Manchester City still interested in Declan Rice
According to a report by 90min, defending English Premier League champions Manchester City are keeping an eye on England international Declan Rice.
Under Pep Guardiola, Manchester City have built one of the strongest teams in the world. They have multiple quality players at each position.
In defensive midfield, City have Spanish international Rodri and another England international Kalvin Phillips. Apart from them, the club captain Ilkay Gundogan also has the ability to play as a defensive midfielder. However, like Pep, the Guardiola City management believe change is the key to their success.
Now Declan Rice is considered untouchable by the West Ham management. The 23-year-old defensive midfielder has all the qualities to be part of Pep Guardiola’s team. Guardiola himself has previously praised Rice.
Meanwhile, City will have to contend with many more Premier League teams if they want to sign the English midfielder. City rivals Manchester United and Liverpool are also interested in the player.
But it has been understood that Declan Rice’s boyhood club, Chelsea, is currently the favorite for Declan Rice.
The midfielder knows perfectly the interests of the big clubs. But he is currently fully committed to West Ham.
Despite Werst Ham’s poor start, Declan Rice has played in all 8 games and has already provided two assists. The midfielder will now be part of the England team that will participate in the next World Cup. In the absence of Kalvin Phillips, Rice is expected to start with the Three Lions.
