Man Utd to Enquire About Portugal International

Manchester United are set to make an inquiry regarding the availability of Benfica striker Goncalo Ramos, according to a report on ESPN.

The Red Devils are looking to bolster their attacking department with the addition of a striker in the upcoming January transfer window following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo last month.

Manchester United terminated Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract with the club by mutual consent in November this year, ending the Portuguese superstar’s second spell at the club. Ronaldo’s tenure at Man Utd was cut short after he sat down for an explosive interview with Piers Morgan in which he criticized manager Erik ten Hag and the Glazer family, which owns the club.

Manchester United and Cristiano Ronaldo then opted to part ways by mutual agreement. With Ronaldo out, Man Utd are looking to bolster their attacking department with the addition of a striker, and Goncalo Ramos is one of the options they are considering.

ESPN reports that Manchester United are ready to inquire about the availability of Goncalo Ramos ahead of the upcoming January transfer window. Although the Red Devils are looking to bolster their offense, manager Erik ten Hag has been told, ESPN reports, that a new forward is not certain to arrive in January.

The 21-year-old striker came close to leaving Benfica in the 2021 summer transfer window. Benfica were considering offers in the region of €20m for the Portuguese youngster at the start of the season, but Ramos’s actions have increased considerably after his Portugal hat-trick at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Goncalo Ramos replaced Cristiano Ronaldo and started for Portugal in their 2022 FIFA World Cup round of 16 clash against Switzerland. The Benfica striker made the most of the opportunity, becoming the first player to score a hat-trick at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

As has been said, the price of Goncalo Ramos has risen considerably, and it would cost Manchester United much more than it would have cost to sign the Benfica striker in the previous summer transfer window.

Meanwhile, Manchester United currently sit fifth in the Premier League points table. The Old Trafford side have 26 points from 14 matches and are 11 points behind table top Arsenal.
