Man Utd ‘Far Away From Where They Need to Be’, Insists Erik ten Hag

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has warned the club that they are far from where they need to be, but stressed that they are now headed in the right direction.

Manchester United appointed Erik ten Hag as their manager at the end of the 21/22 season, and the Dutchman left Ajax to become the new manager of the Red Devils. Erik ten Hag has impressed greatly since he became Manchester United manager, as the Old Trafford side sit fifth on the Premier League points table.

After a dismal start to the 22/23 Premier League season with defeats in the first two games, Manchester United have bounced back, losing only twice in the 12 games they have since played in the English top flight.

Manchester United currently have 26 points from 14 games in the Premier League in the 22/23 season. The Red Devils are 11 points behind table leaders Arsenal and three points behind Tottenham, who sit fourth after having played one more game than Man Utd.

Speaking ahead of Manchester United’s EFL Cup clash with Burnley, Erik ten Hag said they are headed in the right direction but still some way from where they need to be.

The Dutchman also insisted that Manchester United have to live by high standards all the time and that it is up to him to meet the standards and set a good example.

“I knew it would be a difficult project. Man United were not in the circumstances you would expect from them. I think we are now in the right direction, but we are far from where we need to be,” said Erik ten Hag.

“I always say, satisfaction makes you lazy. If you are too satisfied with yourself and the team, you will not be able to maintain high standards. It’s up to me to control that and set a good example. We have to live by high standards all the time.”

Meanwhile, Manchester United are reportedly looking to sign an attacker in the January transfer window following Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure from the club in November this year.

Manchester United terminated Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract with the club by mutual consent in November following the Portuguese superstar’s explosive interview with Piers Morgan.
