Manchester United are still interested in Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa.
Costa has been said to be at the top of the Red Devils’ wish list as Erik ten Hag plans the recruitment of a long-term replacement for David de Gea.
The Spaniard only has one year left on his contract at Old Trafford and there have been a number of questions about his suitability for Erik ten Hag’s system.
De Gea’s shortcomings lie mainly in his inability to distribute the ball, play with his feet and initiate sweeping actions.
These are all elements of the game that Costa excels at to great effect.
United were hit hard in their pursuit of Costa when the Portuguese signed a new deal with Porto that substantially increased his release clause.
Costa’s new release clause to wrest him from Porto’s hands is €75m, up from his €60m asking price.
According to A Bola via Sport Witness, the 20-time English champions have not been put off by the Liga Nos giants’ new valuation and remain admirers of the 23-year-old goalkeeper.
Sport Witness broadcasts: “The player [Costa] it remains in the shark lake, as it “remains on the radar of the European giants”.
“Manchester United and Barcelona are cataloged as two groups attentive to the evolution of the Porto star”.
“It is said that his ability to stop penalties is one more reason why there is so much interest in him, but in reality it is his general quality that will make his price so high.”
Fans will no doubt be delighted that club bosses are adamant about getting Costa in an effort to land Ten Hag’s number one goalkeeper alternative.
