Manchester United are considering a January deal for South Korean international Kim Min-Jae amid uncertainty over the status of his release clause.
The Napoli defender has been the subject of United interest for some time, and the Red Devils have been impressed by his performances since he replaced Chelsea’s Kalidou Koulibaly.
Beyond United, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are also fans of Min-Jae, with peak interest in him due to his World Cup performances.
He has been just as impressive for his country as he has been for Italy.
The Mirror reports: “Manchester United are looking for a sensational coup to land South Korean defender Kim Min-Jae following his heroic World Cup performances.”
“It has been revealed that Luciano Spalletti’s team are already concerned about Min-Jae’s future at the Stadio Diego Maradona due to a €45m (£38m) release clause in the defender’s contract.”
“Napoli are keen to remove that clause by rewarding Min-Jae with a new and improved deal.”
Napoli club boss Aurelio De Laurentiis is said to be ready for quick talks with Min-Jae and his representatives on new terms.
Beyond any doubt, a new deal at the Estadio Diego Armando Maradona would imply that Gli Azzurri would significantly increase the value of the current release clause.
Min-Jae is one of the team’s most valuable and salable assets along with others like Victor Osimhen, so the Serie A giants would want to get as much money out of a sale as possible.
With Napoli at the top of the Serie A table by eight points, it will be interesting to see if Min-Jae will be receptive to a change.
In any case, if United’s interest is substantial, the club will need to secure the player’s services as quickly as possible and avoid the possibility of shelling out more money in the future.
