Major £300m Newcastle United deal could be agreed next week

Newcastle United representatives will hold potentially decisive talks on a permanent deal with airline SAUDIA during the club’s upcoming trip to the owners’ homeland of Saudi Arabia.

SAUDIA is sponsoring Newcastle’s mid-season tour, which sees Eddie Howe’s team take advantage of a warm-weather training camp in Riyadh before facing Al-Hilal in a friendly next Thursday, and could become his sponsor at long term.

According to Football Insider, Newcastle would prefer to do business with a company that is not formally linked to its owners to avoid accusations of financial doping.

SAUDIA is owned by the state but legally independent of PIF, the nation’s sovereign wealth fund and owner of the Premier League club.

A sponsorship broker told Football Insider that Newcastle’s commercial department will meet with the Public Investment Fund and SAUDIA representatives next week, with a view to reaching an agreement in principle to sponsor the club.

However, an official announcement is likely to be delayed until at least the spring.

The Premier League’s fair market value committee could approve a partnership worth up to £300m if the deal is structured over 10 years.

This would bring a lot of money to the club and allow them to spend more on the transfer market.

Eddie Howe has already overseen the club’s impressive jump to third in the Premier League table and it won’t be long before the Magpies are in contention for top spot.
