Louis van Gaal’s wife, Truus, said the Dutch manager was almost ashamed of the salaries he earned during his tenure as Manchester United manager.
Truss revealed Van Gaal’s reaction to being named Old Trafford’s best man by Ed Woodward.
The current Netherlands manager was brought in to replace David Moyes and spent two years in charge of United before being sacked after winning the FA Cup.
At the time, the Red Devils spent heavily to attract Van Gaal and provide the necessary funds to help him mold the team in his image.
Therefore, it was disappointing when his era came to an end.
Truss told Nouveau via SportWitness that her husband invited Woodward to their home in Noordwijk, where the former club boss offered him the job.
Truss conveyed Van Gaal’s delight at securing the United job, and when she asked how much they would earn, her husband ridiculously commented that he didn’t know and it wasn’t discussed.
“A few days later, Woodward called again, Louis joked, ‘My wife wants to know how much I’ll make hahaha. And then she does not negotiate. He is almost ashamed of the amount that she is receiving.

Di María accused the 71-year-old of being the worst coach he has ever played under due to his constant habit of pointing out his mistakes even when he played excellently.
Van Gaal responded in classic fashion, saying: “Did Maria call me the worst manager he’s ever had? He is one of the few players with this opinion. I am very sorry for this and I find it sad that he said this ”.
