Liverpool’s recruitment in midfield has been utterly shambolic

In four and a half years, the only midfielder Liverpool have signed permanently is Thiago.

If the latest rumors are to be believed (via the Mirror), Liverpool won’t be signing one this January either, extending that period to five years.

Five years with just one midfielder bought is absolutely insane, it really is.

Jurgen Klopp’s side were once defined by their intensity and solidity in midfield, but now they are invaded in midfield every week, even when they win.

Against Brentford, they were horrible. Fabinho has lost his legs and Harvey Elliott is simply not a central midfielder. Thiago fought bravely and is still brilliant, but he can’t do it alone and, at 31, he won’t be here forever.

My sources tell me the club are waiting for Jude Bellingham in the summer, but if Liverpool miss out on the top four, an increasingly likely possibility, will they really have the funds or ability to secure him, when Real Madrid will too? is he fighting with his teeth? and nail for your signature?

Unlikely.

Jurgen Klopp and Pep Lijnders have been too loyal to the same stalwarts for too long. The team has lost the bite and the fight. It’s not so much The Last Dance, as The Last Hurrah.
