Liverpool trio take next step towards full fitness as 26-man squad trains – Liverpool FC

Ibrahima Konate was among those who took part in open training on Monday night, with no surprises in the Liverpool squad preparing for Rangers.

The Reds will look to put their weekend frustrations behind them when they host the Rangers for the first time in their history on Tuesday night.

After rallying from 2-0 down to lead 3-2 on Saturday, only to fall to a 3-3 draw with Brighton, there are still issues to be resolved for Jurgen Klopp and his players.

That could be aided by a change in personnel, with Konate likely among those vying for a first-choice spot when he returns to full fitness.

Konate took another step towards her comeback when she joined the team at the AXA Training Center, having fully recovered from a long-term knee injury.

The 23-year-old was part of a 26-man squad put to the test as afternoon turned to night in Kirkby, with Calvin Ramsay and Caoimhin Kelleher also among those who trained.

All three have spent the entire campaign on the sidelines so far, but are in line to feature on match days in the near future.

Kelleher has already made his first start – in fact, he played the full 90 minutes when Liverpool under-21 drew 1-1 with Arsenal on Saturday – and Ramsay is expected to have an imminent breakout with the under-21s.

Stefan Bajcetic was part of senior team training on Monday, with no sign of Curtis Jones despite claims he was about to return from injury.

Andy Robertson remains out, as does Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita, but there are no new injuries from the weekend.

Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota entered the session having been deemed fit enough for the bench on Saturday, with the pair hoping for a starting spot at the 8pm kick-off on Tuesday.
