Liverpool star wants contract extension as Florian Plettenberg gives transfer rumour weight

There were some fears that the addition of Cody Gakpo from PSV would spell the imminent end of Bobby Firmino’s Liverpool career.

However, an update from Florian Plettenberg on Twitter seems to have clarified that this is not the case, despite the rumors surrounding his possible departure from Anfield.

There are links to Saudi Arabia to consider, of course, and the threat of a potentially lucrative offer, as alluded to in another journalist’s cryptic online message.

Having been one of our strongest players this season, our No. 9 certainly salvaged his L4 status and could yet extend his future in the side.

The question will be long given his current age (31) and his relative decline in the team.

The player appears content on Merseyside, which will go some way to fostering a meeting of minds at a time when other teams may start talks with Firmino about a pre-contract deal.

Having achieved it all in Liverpool, we could hardly envy the Brazilian for a fresh challenge elsewhere, although it would inspire a greater degree of confidence in our attacking capabilities if we were to keep the center forward beyond the summer window.
