Liverpool players “all excited” for Calvin Ramsay to make first training step – Liverpool FC

Sightings of summer signing Calvin Ramsay have been few and far between due to injury, leaving his teammates eager to see him in action on the pitch.

Liverpool signed the young Scotsman from Aberdeen in a £6.5m deal in June, but he has yet to get going as the club take a patient approach to his injury.

What was described as a “minor injury” has now kept Ramsay out of team training for almost three months, and his integration into the squad therefore assumed a different plan than expected.

But that hasn’t stopped Liverpool managers and teammates from expressing their excitement at seeing Ramsay on the pitch alongside them.

The 19-year-old missed the adjustment period during pre-season, but his presence during Austria’s training camp served as a valuable moment to connect with his teammates off the pitch.

And that connection has already caught the attention of Joe Gomez, who praised the young defender and his character, very much in line with what Jurgen Klopp is looking for in his players.

“Calvin seems like a down to earth guy,” Gomez told LFC Magazine.

“Obviously we weren’t able to mingle with him in pre-season training, which was unfortunate, but I hope he’s close to overcoming that little issue and I think we’re all excited to see him play.

“Obviously he’s a talented player, that’s why he’s at this club, and the way he is at the venue, he seems like a nice, humble lad and we can’t wait to see him get involved on the pitch.”

There is currently no definitive timetable for Ramsay’s return to training, but in late August, Klopp said “it was really getting closer”.

The hope then is that he joins full training in the coming weeks and then can at least be in the mix for a starting place against Derby in the Carabao Cup on November 9.
