Liverpool optimistic about earlier than expected return of key star

Liverpool and their medical staff are said to be optimistic about Diogo Jota’s return ahead of the Reds’ Champions League draws with Real Madrid in February.

The striker has been sidelined since the closing stages of a 1-0 win over Man City on October 16, picking up a calf injury minutes before the final whistle.

The Portuguese international has not played for the Reds since and missed the entirety of the World Cup in Qatar as a result.

Jota’s initial return date was set for late January/early February and he traveled with the rest of the Liverpool squad to Dubai for his mid-season camp, where he continues his rehabilitation.

Portuguese newspaper O Jogo via Sport Witness has now claimed that the 26-year-old has left Liverpool’s medical staff “quite optimistic” about his return and could return sooner than expected.

Liverpool have set their sights on their Champions League round of 16 against Real Madrid for when Jota should be fully fit, but the Portuguese star could play before then.

According to O Jogo, the 26-year-old could pick up minutes against Everton (February 13) and Newcastle (February 18), which will be good news for Reds fans considering the recent setback regarding Luis Diaz, who Jurgen Klopp waits. Jack avoids.
