Liverpool one of several PL clubs showing ‘interest’ in Villarreal star

Liverpool are reportedly showing interest in Villarreal winger Alex Baena with a report claiming the Reds are preparing a bid.

The Spaniard has made a strong statement this season with the LaLiga team and has scored six goals and recorded two assists in 10 games for the yellows (among all competitions).

The 21-year-old spent time on loan in second-tier Girona last season and Manchester City are also believed to be showing interest in the winger, according to a report from Signings (via Caught Offside).

Baena currently has a €35m release clause in his contract with Villarreal, but the Spaniards are keen for him to sign a new deal to increase that figure and thus reduce the likelihood of any departure in the near future. .

Chelsea and Arsenal are two other Premier League clubs who are reportedly keeping an eye on the winger.

Unai Emery is currently getting the best out of the Spain Under-21 international and it would be interesting to see the possibility of him playing under Jurgen Klopp, one of the best coaches in the world.

Midfield is thought to be the position the Reds have made a priority to strengthen, but if Baena continues to perform well, we certainly wouldn’t rule out a move.

Playing in both the Premier League and Champions League is something that will certainly appeal to the youngster, but he understandably sees Villarreal as the best place for his development at the moment.

Arguably first-team playing time would be hard to come by if he moved to Anfield this season, but this is certainly one to watch.
