Liverpool officially confirm Cody Gakpo signing in best way possible

Liverpool have recreated the famous signing of Virgil van Dijk with the announcement of the transfer of Cody Gakpo from PSV to the Reds after a successful medical.

The Dutch international, who found the back of the net three times in five games for Louis van Gaal’s men during the World Cup, was pictured in front of a Christmas tree at the AXA training center after completing the relevant paperwork for a deal.

It is the Merseysiders’ first transfer deal before the opening of the January window, in which they are also expected to sign a new midfielder to replenish a struggling department.

It says a lot about our comparative attraction to arch-rivals Manchester United given how much the Red Devils are understood to have scouted the 23-year-old.

While perhaps not the transfer we critically needed at the moment, it’s one of the few, if any, Liverpool fans will turn down after the striker’s quality performances in Doha.

Of course, it raises questions about the future of Bobby Firmino, who had been under a new contract before it expired in 2023.

Hopefully, it’s not the last business we see from the club in January.
