Liverpool must ‘stop conceding silly goals’, says Alisson Becker

Alisson Becker admitted that Liverpool need to “stop conceding silly goals” after the Reds fell to an embarrassing 3-0 defeat to Wolves at Molineux.

A Joel Matip own goal saw Julián Lopetegui’s side deflect the mark before a powerful effort from Craig Dawson doubled their lead on 15 minutes.

Ruben Neves sealed all three points for the hosts with 20 minutes remaining and the Brazilian goalkeeper has insisted that he and his teammates cannot even think about qualifying for the Champions League at the moment.

“We have to think about the next games, that’s what we have on our hands,” Alisson told the club’s official site (via The Independent). “We are not in a position to think too much about what we can do at the end of the season.

“We have to think about what we can do better now and win the next game ahead of us. That’s all.

“We are not in the situation where we are confident, but we tried. We had a good second half and then we conceded again – you don’t score and you concede again, so it’s completely frustrating on my part.

“It seems like in the game we were two steps back in the first 15 minutes and then we take a step forward. So we still have to do more steps because of the result.

“The step forward was the performance of the second half, it changed a lot, it was two completely different sides if you look at the game. We have to take advantage of that for the next game, take advantage of the chances we have and stop conceding silly goals.”

It is clear that many of our players have very low confidence, but the only way to fix that is by winning games.

The hunger and work rate that has made us what we are in recent seasons is missing right now and that’s clear when you look at our recent results.

We have won just one of our last seven games (in all competitions) and the next one is the Merseyside derby at Anfield.

Everton have just won a huge win over league leaders Arsenal at Goodison Park and they will think there is no better time to play us.

Let’s hope the guys can put things right and get us back to winning ways against our bitter rivals.
