Liverpool have been linked with several players at this year’s World Cup who weren’t even hinted at as a potential signing before the tournament got underway, but it seems one man may not be destined to move to Anfield.
During an exclusive interview with Empire of the Kop, Christian Falk said: “Josko Gvardiol, but there is a small, small chance that Liverpool can get this player.” [Gvardiol]I think he is one of the most exciting players we have right now in the Bundesliga and he is doing very, very well”.
However, it seems that these tenuous ties may end before they even begin, as reported by Sky Sports in Germany: “Josko Gvardiol is expected to remain at RB Leipzig beyond the summer of 2023.”

There were a host of clubs, including Bayern Munich, said to be interested in the Croatian, but it seems he is happy to extend his stay at RB Leipzig and remain in the Bundesliga.
With his nation making a surprise progression to the tournament semi-finals in Qatar as well, there is never a good time to try and sign a player, with strong performances on the biggest stage of all likely only increasing the price tag required for the defender. .
However, at just 20 years old, the versatile central defender and left-back could be a name for the future and with our positive relationships with the Red Bull company, he is certainly a player to watch.
A move that may be off the table any time soon, but still worth keeping an eye out for when Croatia take on Argentina in the semi-finals this week.
