Liverpool issue a statement to all supporters travelling to Manchester City

The return of domestic football is very close and before Liverpool’s first game against Manchester City, both clubs have sent a joint statement to all fans attending the game, warning about possible behavior.

An excerpt from the letter reads: “The passion and enthusiasm we see in our fans when we play each other, at the Etihad Stadium or Anfield, is part of what makes matches between our clubs so special, and we know they are committed to creating a stadium environment where everyone is welcomed, accepted and has a fantastic matchday experience.

“Unfortunately, based on recent meetings between our clubs, we also know that a minority of fans are responsible for behaviors and actions that have no place in our game.”

Many of our supporters will point out the abominable references to the Hillsborough disaster by visiting supporters during our last meeting at Anfield and wonder what exactly our fans have done to justify this.

Due to the growing rivalry in recent years between the two teams, there have been matches of great importance and that has led to bad behaviour.

We can’t ignore the infamous Kopparberg bottle that was thrown at the Manchester manager before the match during the Champions League in 2018, so there is blame on both sides of this.

Instead of becoming a battle of who has done worse and who is more to blame, the proper way to address these issues is with a joint statement and hopefully end this nonsense.

We would love to see the football rivalry not lead to violence, anti-social behavior and chants about the tragic deaths of fans, and hopefully this meeting of the two clubs can help ensure that this happens.
