Reflecting on the 19-year-old’s (as Dominic King put it) ‘outstanding’ outing for England, The Athletic’s Laurie Whitwell confirmed on Twitter that the Red Devils had seen the midfielder in action 46 times since he was 12.

It’s no surprise that the Old Trafford-based outfit have closely followed the Stourbridge-born star’s progress, as have most of Europe’s top teams.

Amid continued claims that a deal between Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund is, for all intents and purposes, a deal done before the 2023 summer window, Whitwell’s update is an important reminder of our prowess in transfer window.
That said, we certainly shouldn’t be tempted to assume the teenager will sport the famous redshirt next year given the considerable interest in his services.
However, judging from the beginning of Julian Ward’s life as sporting director, it would seem that we are in as good hands as he was under Michael Edwards’ stewardship of our transfer activities.
