Liverpool ‘forging a close relationship’ with midfielder’s camp ahead of potential January switch – ESPN

Liverpool are said to be “forging a close relationship” with Jude Bellingham’s camp, which could still provide a significant advantage in the race for his signature.

The England international is said to be at the top of the Reds’ transfer wish list for the summer of 2023.

“Liverpool is seen as the favorite to sign Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund, multiple sources told ESPN, and is leading the chase despite Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City and Real Madrid also following the 19-year-old.” James Olley wrote for ESPN.

“A source connected to a rival bidding club believes Liverpool are forging a close relationship with the player’s camp, which could be an important factor.

“Another source said the broad framework of a deal to bring Bellingham to Anfield could even be moving forward, although both the player and his father, Mark, have publicly dismissed the idea that a decision has been made on his next club.”

Jurgen Klopp’s men, of course, will not be the only ones interested in snapping up the highly talented midfielder and both Manchester City and Real Madrid are known to be admirers.

ESPN has floated a possible trade in January, though we’d certainly question such a possibility.

“Dortmund are expected to allow Bellingham to leave in January or, much more likely, next summer and the most obvious ray of hope for Liverpool’s rivals comes in the valuation of the Bundesliga club,” the reporter added.

We know with absolute certainty that, barring any other considerations related to negotiations with Borussia Dortmund, Liverpool will need to produce more than the £85.9m that Sport Bild has claimed FSG will be willing to back us with.

In fact, it will take another €50m to make it to the table (assuming Bellingham doesn’t enjoy a remarkable World Cup campaign).

This raises questions about what the general state of our finances will look like and whether there is room in the budget beyond a big splurge on the former Birmingham City youth prospect, given that at least two midfielders will need to be brought in between the next two windows.
