Liverpool could still complete £68m transfer plan as Real Madrid truth comes to light

Liverpool had an exciting summer transfer window in 2022 lined up as the Reds went after Aurelien Tchouameni in a bid to rejuvenate an aging midfield.

The Merseysiders lost out in the end to interest from Real Madrid (despite reports of a £68m bid), although perhaps there is a sign the move may not pan out to Carlo Ancelotti’s favor in the long term afterward. that the head coach admitted to some positional concerns with the Frenchman.

“Tchouameni does not feel comfortable if he plays with another DM in a midfield 3, Camavinga is better in that aspect”, the Italian Real Madrid TV (via Madrid Universal). “A double pivot from Camavinga and Tchouameni? It could be an idea for the future.”

Potentially, up to three midfielders could leave the AXA training center for good at the end of the season (not counting loan star Arthur Melo) should their contracts not be renewed.

As such, it’s going to be a case of quantity and quality in terms of revenue needed if we’re going to go into the next campaign with a higher level of preparation.

Jude Bellingham remains the absolute priority for Jurgen Klopp’s men in 2023, although Tchouameni’s situation in the Spanish capital may be worth keeping an eye on should concerns persist over his use in midfield three.

It’s unlikely we’ll end up sneaking the former Monaco player out of the Champions League champions any time soon, although we know he’s a profile we were interested in long before his move to Los Blancos.
