Liverpool could look to sanction 27-year-old’s departure in January

Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita has been linked with a move away from the club at the end of the season.

The 27-year-old is due to finish his contract in June and a Give Me Sport report claims the Reds could cash in on the former RB Leipzig midfielder in January.

Dharmesh Sheth told GMS: “He has had injury problems throughout his Liverpool career.

“There have been links once again with a return to the Bundesliga, but he is with the Liverpool team now in Dubai and has resumed training with them.

“He’s definitely one to watch because if Liverpool decide not to extend that contract, then there could be business to do in January.”

Keita’s contract expires in a few months and Liverpool have not yet been able to agree an extension with him. It will be interesting to see if they decide to sell the player next month instead of losing him for free during the summer transfer window.

The Guinean international arrived at Liverpool with high expectations, but the transfer has not materialized due to his persistent injury problems.

The 27-year-old has impressed every time he has been fit and is clearly qualified by manager Jurgen Klopp. However, Keita has not been able to overcome his persistent injury problems.

Naby Keita has yet to make a single appearance in any competition for Liverpool this season and the Reds should look to cut their losses on him and invest in a player with better availability.

Liverpool have been linked with a signing of Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat in recent weeks, and it will be interesting to see if they can sign the 26-year-old Moroccan next month.

Keita is currently training again with Liverpool and it remains to be seen if he can play regularly for the second half of the season if he is not sold in January.
