Liverpool could be prompted into loan recall after latest Reds body blow

Liverpool have recalled several players on loan over the last fortnight, and there is a distinct possibility they will do so again in the coming days.

Fabio Carvalho, Rhys Williams, Owen Beck and James Balazigi have all had temporary moves ruled out, and a potentially calamitous body blow for the Reds may prompt them to do the same with another loanee.

As noted by the Lancashire Post, Trent Alexander-Arnold’s knee injury could lead to LFC withdrawing Calvin Ramsay from his loan spell at Preston North End, particularly as the young Scot has already faced an “uncertain” future at Deepdale.

In fact, Lilywhites manager Ryan Lowe had even recently admitted that there was a possibility of the 20-year-old returning to Anfield even before the news of today’s knock against Liverpool’s vice-captain.

Given the dearth of senior full-back options currently available to Jurgen Klopp, and Ramsay’s struggles for playing time at Preston, it would be very foolish of Liverpool not to at least attempt to recall the right-back from his loan spell.

The Scotland international has played just twice for the Lilywhites all season, his involvement largely limited by injury and illness (Transfermarkt), and Lowe has effectively stated that he has no intention of dropping Brad Potts from his preferred XI in the short term (Lancashire Post). .

Therefore, the 20-year-old’s prospects of getting game time at Deepdale are slim, and even if he were to face a similar situation at Anfield, at least having him available would allow him some breathing room in terms of team selection. .

It helps that Ramsay didn’t play in Preston’s 4-0 defeat to Chelsea in the FA Cup last weekend, so if Liverpool called him up he would be eligible to feature in their fourth-round tie against Norwich or Bristol. Rovers. end of January and could give Conor Bradley a break.

It seems like a no-brainer for the Reds to try to end the young Scot’s loan spell in Lancashire, especially after the seismic blow to Trent.
