Liverpool agree Cody Gakpo fee with PSV

Liverpool have reached an agreement with PSV Eindhoven for the transfer of Cody Gakpo. The Reds will reportedly pay an initial fee of around $44.4 million for the budding star, but the transfer could increase to $60 million based on certain conditions. PSV revealed the agreement on Twitter.

“PSV and LFC have reached an agreement on the proposed transfer of Cody Gakpo,” the club announced. “The 23-year-old attacker will leave imminently for England, where he will undergo the necessary procedures before the completion of the transfer.”

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano claimed that the player’s contract was being prepared to be signed on Tuesday. Gakpo is supposed to remain on Merseyside until the summer of 2028.

Impressive fast-paced World Cup talks

Gakpo starred with the Netherlands in the World Cup in Qatar. The versatile 23-year-old attacking player scored in all three of his team’s group games at the tournament. It certainly looks like Gakpo’s productive tournament helped Liverpool make the final decision to target the Dutchman.

The Reds also moved quickly to beat other rivals and sign the player. Previously, Manchester United were strongly linked with Gakpo. Manager Erik ten Hag knew the winger firsthand, having coached in the Dutch league at Ajax before moving to United. However, Liverpool moved quickly to remove Gakpo from under United’s nose.

Liverpool sign Cody Gakpo as reinforcement

Liverpool needed to make a major move in the upcoming January transfer market. The Merseyside club are currently sixth in the Premier League table and needed a prolific player to replace the injured Luis Diaz. Diaz is currently out for a couple of months with a knee injury. Both players usually operate on the left flank. However, Gakpo can also work up front in the center forward position.

Gakpo has racked up an impressive nine goals and 12 assists in just 14 Eredivisie games so far this season. In fact, he has produced in virtually every competition he has played this season. Gakpo also has three goals and two assists in five Europa League games. Liverpool fans are hoping that he can keep up the momentum as the Reds move forward.
