Lionel Messi Set to Return to PSG Training on January 3rd

Lionel Messi is scheduled to return to club service with Paris Saint-Germain in early January 2023, according to a report in TyC.

The 35-year-old is yet to return to training with Paris Saint-Germain after winning the 2022 FIFA World Cup title with the Argentina national soccer team. Lionel Messi was a key player for Argentina as the South American heavyweights lifted the coveted title at Qatar 2022.

Lionel Messi scored seven goals in seven games for Argentina at Qatar 2022, including a brace he netted in the FIFA World Cup final against France. His performance for Argentina in the latest edition of FIFA’s flagship event also earned him the Ballon d’Or.

It was also Lionel Messi’s first FIFA World Cup victory, as the Argentine finally lifted the only trophy that had eluded him until then in his trophy-filled career.

Argentine outlet TyC reports that Lionel Messi will return to training with Paris Saint-Germain on January 3. That also means PSG will be without Messi when they take on Strasbourg in their next Ligue 1 match.

For his part, Lionel Messi has been sensational with Paris Saint-Germain in the 22/23 season. After enduring a rather disappointing first season with PSG on 21/22, Messi has looked back at his best in the current season.

He has been one of their best players in the 22/23 season, with the Argentine racking up 12 goals in 19 games across all competitions for PSG. He has also amassed 14 assists for PSG in the 22/23 season.

Meanwhile, PSG are flying high in Ligue 1. The defending league champions are unbeaten in the French top flight and sit atop the points table with 41 points from 15 games. They have 13 wins and two draws in Ligue 1 so far this season.

PSG is also one of the favorites to win the 22/23 Champions League title. The French giants have qualified for the round of 16 of the competition. They will face German heavyweights Bayern Munich in the 2022/23 Champions League round of 16.
