LFC interested in teenage Italy defender; soon to be a free agent

Liverpool are interested in Atalanta central defender Giorgio Scalvini, according to Calciomercato (via FootballFancast).

Despite being just 18 years old, the Reds join Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Inter Milan in being impressed by what they see from the Italian international.

The report claims that the Serie A side will not let the teenager leave until the end of the season and they currently value their No. 42 at somewhere in the region of £26m.

His current contract with the Nerazzurri expires in the summer (according to BeSoccer), however, so he could negotiate a free transfer from January.

However, the heart of the defense is an area where Jurgen Klopp is well supplied, with Ibrahima Konate, Joel Matip and Joe Gomez proving that they are more than capable of impressing alongside Virgil van Dijk.

However, all three players have struggled with injury throughout their time on Merseyside, so the former Borussia Dortmund manager could consider a move for the youngster.

Scalvini has featured 11 times for Gian Piero Gasperini’s side this term with the Bergamo-based team currently sixth in the Italian top flight.

Since arriving on Merseyside in 2015, our German tactician hasn’t been afraid to put his faith in youth and the signing of the central defender would be huge for the future.

The Italian is hopefully excited at the opportunity to continue his promising development under Klopp, a manager who has a proven track record of helping players reach their potential and getting the best out of their team.
