Klopp weighs in on Liverpool’s top four hopes after Leeds defeat

Jurgen Klopp insists he remains focused on solving Liverpool’s short-term problems rather than worrying about whether they will finish in the top four of the Premier League.

The Reds fell to an upset 2-1 loss to Leeds United at Anfield on Saturday night in what was already their fourth league defeat of the season.

But even though the FA Cup champions now sit eight points behind Newcastle, who sit bottom of the Champions League at the moment, the German strategist insists qualifying for Europe’s top competition is not your main concern right now.

“Yes, actually that is not my main concern at the moment because there are many other concerns, but yes, of course,” the former Borussia Dortmund manager said (quoted by Liverpool World).

“So, like I said, we have to fix that and we’ll see where we end up. We all know that everything is possible, or many things are possible, but for that you have to win football games and we still haven’t done it often enough”.

There is still a long way to go this season but the quality of our performances is worrying – Leeds wanted it more last night and there are too many of our boys underperforming at the same time.

Fabinho, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez haven’t been good enough this term, but with the number of injuries and the team’s lack of depth, Klopp has no choice but to continue playing with them.

The absences of Luis Díaz and Diogo Jota are being felt and the sooner Ibrahima Konate or Joel Matip return to the heart of our defense, the better.

If we don’t finish in the top four, our only other route to the Champions League is to win the competition this term.
