Klopp now confirms ‘outstanding’ star will miss Brighton clash

Calvin Ramsay will have to wait a bit longer for his Liverpool debut after Jurgen Klopp officially ruled the youngster out of the Reds’ upcoming tie with Brighton & Hove Albion.

The young Scotsman, who arrived highly rated from Aberdeen, has been on the sidelines since the start of the season after a doctor discovered a persistent problem.

“Calvin is not ready to play, but he is happy to be able to train now. That’s good, that’s really good,” the German tactician told reporters at his pre-match press conference, as broadcast on the club’s official website. “So he now he just needs to train, train, train and there will be a point where he will probably play. [for the] U21s who can get a game, because now we play all the time. But that’s okay.

While it’s certainly a frustrating time for the young fullback, you can be sure his manager remains just as excited about what he can potentially offer the team in the future.

“He is an outstanding talent. We scouted him, I watched a lot of Calvin’s games and he did exceptionally well,” Klopp continued for liverpoolfc.com.

“Because of his young age and the way he plays, he is a real player, he is really involved in everything.

“A real talent, he was very excited, I’m excited for him, but then he came here and had a back problem and he’s been out ever since.

“Now I’ve seen him two or three times in training but it’s the first three sessions. We now know much more about him as a child; exceptional, well mannered, friendly, very trusting and a very nice guy. Now we start working, that’s all.”

Klopp, Alexander-Arnold, Richards
Calvin Ramsay’s availability in the coming weeks will be a huge boost amid ongoing questions about Trent Alexander-Arnold’s form.

It’s a shame we have to wait a little longer to get a look at the 19-year-old who won the Scottish Football Writers’ Association Young Player of the Year award for his significant contributions last year.

Although we’re far from expecting Ramsay to take Trent Alexander-Arnold’s place in the first XI once he’s fully available for selection, having genuine competition on the right side can hardly be seen as a negative.

Ideally, we’ll see a situation unfold that mirrors the left flank, where Kostas Tsimikas has tended to thrive when Andy Robertson has been forced to sit on the sidelines.

It’s a tall order for the Scot given the caliber of player he’ll be competing with for minutes, though judging by Klopp’s comments it looks like a challenge he’ll be able to take on.
