Klopp blown away by £140k-p/w ace’s ‘incredible’ technical ability

The Darwin Nunez star appears to be finally shining at Liverpool following his £64m move from Benfica.

The Uruguayan, on £140k a week (according to The Telegraph, via Rousing The Kop), inspired an impassioned defense from Jurgen Klopp after turning a corner past his three-game suspension.

“All of that is important in the life of a professional footballer. We have to work on everyone in all the different areas. So the potential is incredible. It’s not just speed, the attitude is very good, he’s a real worker,” the German told reporters (via the club’s official website).

“Again, I tell you, and I know there are some people who think: ‘Technically, I’m not sure, first contact…’, it’s unbelievable. That he does not bring it all the time to the field, the first touch can be here or there sometimes, it has nothing to do with technique.

“It’s a bit late, awareness, orientation and all that kind of stuff, but everything is possible to develop and learn.”

Four goals spread evenly in his last four starts would certainly show that the 23-year-old is exactly on the right track.

While comparisons will continue to be made to Manchester City’s Erling Haaland, it is critical that we allow our potential record signing to be his own man and develop in his own time.

His punishment for a header on Joachim Andersen was well deserved, though it clearly came at a bad time when it came to his adaptation period and certainly hurt any potential numbers he could have produced on the pitch.

Another resounding endorsement from his manager will give him an extra boost and hopefully we’ll see another start and goal from Nunez against Leeds United.
