Keyshawn Davis Eager For His Own Shot At Vasiliy Lomachenko

Keyshawn Davis is in the early stages of his career. But regardless of having just five pro fights under his belt, the former Olympic silver medalist is thoroughly enjoying his somewhat meteoric rise.

Currently, the 23-year-old lightweight prospect sees himself as more than just an upstart. In fact, when Davis pulls out his tarot cards and tries to predict the future, he imagines a matchup with Vasiliy Lomachenko as inevitable.

“Hell yeah,” Davis said when asked during an interview with BoxingScene.com if he sees a matchup between him and Lomachenko. “Before he retired, I already said that I want to fight Lomachenko.”

Though driven to one day face the former three-division world champion, Davis (5-0, 4 KOs) is far from Lomachenko’s mind at the moment. After dusting off following his unanimous decision loss to Teofimo Lopez, Lomachenko (16-2, 11 KOs) swept Masayoshi Nakatani and Richard Commey.

While he appeared to be on the brink of a world title challenge, the 34-year-old voluntarily took a career break to help out in his homeland of Ukraine. More recently, however, the former two-time Olympic gold medalist has returned to the United States. As Top Rank recently announced, Lomachenko will officially face Jamaine Ortiz at New York’s Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden on October 29.

If Lomachenko hands Ortiz the first loss of his career, Bob Arum, his longtime promoter, will look to place him in the ring against the winner of the upcoming Devin Haney vs. George Kambosos Jr. fight.

Despite what appears to be a packed schedule, Davis is optimistic that one day he will be allowed to test his boxing prowess against the Ukrainian. Davis, who will return on Sept. 23, recently disclosed that long before signing a promotional deal with Arum’s Top Rank, he informed the 90-year-old Hall of Famer that a matchup with Lomachenko is imperative.

“When I first signed, I told Bob Arum not to let Lomachenko walk away without a fight with me. I want to fight Lomachenko.”
