Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema appears to have announced his retirement from international duty with France.
The 35-year-old tweeted the following message, which strongly hints that his journey with the French national team has come to an end, although he hasn’t made it 100% clear…
I made the effort and mistakes it took to be where I am today and I’m proud of it! I have written my story and ours is over. #Nine pic.twitter.com/7LYEzbpHEs

Still, at his age, one imagines Benzema wouldn’t have much more left at the top level of the game, so perhaps now he’s interested in concentrating fully on his club.
The Real Madrid striker was missed by Les Bleus in the 2022 World Cup, as he surely could have made the difference for them in yesterday’s final defeat against Argentina.

Benzema won the Ballon d’Or earlier this year after some world-class performances that helped Real Madrid win the Champions League, and it’s a shame we won’t see him at another World Cup.
Benzema was also in the nature of international football for a number of years, meaning he was not part of the France team that won the World Cup in 2018.
