The undefeated super-middleweight prospect that drew Kalvin Henderson and Isaiah Steen both made the weight the day before their main event showdown headline a special ShoBox: New Generation 20th anniversary broadcast tomorrow night, Friday, July 23, live on SHOWTIME at 9 p.m. ET/6pm PT from Heartland Events Center on Grand Island, Cotok.
As has been the case for the past 20 years, Friday’s tripleheader presents a very tough prospect. Henderson (14-0-1.10 KOs) met KO artist Steen (15-0, 12 KOs) in the first 10 rounds for both fighters. This added feature pits ShoBox veteran Janelson Bocachica (17-0, 11 KOs) from Detroit against 21-year-old Shinard Bunch (15-1, 13 KOs) in a 10-round welterweight bout. In an unbeaten bout, Martino Jules (10-0-2, 2 KOs) faced Aram Avagyan (10-0-2, 4 KOs) in eight featherweight rounds.
“Boxing is a numbers game. To reach a bigger stage, you have to look good on paper. It doesn’t make sense for me to go 13-0 and play Canelo. So, we have to keep the numbers. I will plan to fight two or three more times this year alone, to make up for 2020 and the year of the pandemic and inactivity.
“I’m not sure how he’s going to fight me. When you see the movie, he always walks forward and lets go of his hand. But when I see him spar he likes to use his jab and use his feet. So we are ready for both. It’s all about adjustment and adaptation.
“I don’t think he’s my toughest opponent, but we’ll see on Friday night. I feel like I have to win every fight, but this one in particular. This is the third time Steen and I have been matched, so the third time was a charm. We have to make this happen.
