Juventus ready to extend Bonucci’s stay on one condition -Juvefc.com

In the modern era, few Juventus players have won more trophies than Leonardo Bonucci. The captain has been acting like a stalwart at the rear of the Turin-based club since 2010. His spell was only interrupted for a year, between 2017 and 2018, when he made a shocking move to Milan.

However, the defender returned to his duties at the Allianz Stadium and recently inherited the captaincy following the departure of his old friend and teammate Giorgio Chiellini.

According to ilBianconero, Juventus are willing to renew the 35-year-old’s contract, which currently expires in 2024.

However, the source mentions an important condition on the part of the management; Bonucci must accept lower wages to extend his time at the club.

Juve FC says

By the time Bonucci’s current contract expires, he will be 37 years old. Therefore, one would think that he already has a decent treatment considering his advanced age and his increasing physical concerns.

However, management is apparently looking to spread the costs by enticing the player with a longer contract that includes a significant salary cut.

Since the arrival of chief executive Maurizio Arrivabene, the club has been able to comprehensively reduce wage bills by shedding some of the top earners or reducing the wages of some of the current workers.

Despite his status as club captain, Bonucci will not be an exception to the applied policy.
